Written in Blood

I began www.jmountswritteninblood.com as a challenge to myself. A friend of mine had a political/religious blog and I figured that if he could do it then so could I. However, if you had told me that Written in Blood would still be going strong 3 years and two posts shy of 700 articles later I might say you were crazy. I began with movie reviews of the horror films I had accumulated over the years; but soon began to include other features as well:

The Scream Queen of the Month-Each month Written in Blood features one of the many beautiful and talented women of the horror film genre. Past Scream Queens have included Julie Strain, Danielle Harris and Caroline Munro.

The Semi-Daily Horror Movie Quote of the Day - So many great horror movies, so many great horror movie quotes. Featured films have included The Exorcist and Return of the Living Dead.

“What’s Their Best Film”?-Three directors, three filmographies. It’s up to you, the readers of Written in Blood to determine “What’s Their Best Film?”

Author Showdown-In this feature I pick two authors of the horror genre and list a portion of their respective bibliographies. As with “What’s Their Best Film?” I leave it up to the readers to decide which author they choose to read.

I don’t write Written in Blood because I’m trying to change the world. I write Written in Blood because it’s a way of having fun and I’m trying to bring as many people as I can along for the ride. The more the scarier; so sit down, strap in and scream at the appropriate moments.

Iwillcallit

www.iwillcallit.com

This blog was originally created in August, 2011 and has been active since then.  I started it because I was searching for a publisher for my third book:  I’ll Call It Like I See It – A Lesbian Speaks Out which is a collection of essays addressing contemporary issues ranging from faith to football as well as six essays relating to my discovering a connection with my mother who had Alzheimer’s disease.

One year later I had a publisher and the book was published in November, 2012, but by then I had a  group of followers who enjoyed my reflections on the vicissitudes of life so the blog lived on after  publication. In addition to the traditional essay topics on current events, music and poetry and other literature are often my inspiration for posts.  I once wrote a series of  romance stories based on post cards from  the 1920s and 30s.  A letter from a soldier to his mother in 1918 was a starting point on one of my more popular posts.  One of the most unusual posts was a love story between a Texas woman and her prize bull (sorry – not THAT kind of love story).  A beautiful sunset can inspire a post.

I also have an inspirational quote posted on the site.  I refresh this periodically.  Some readers notice  and appreciate it.

I’ll Call It Like I See It  is unique because the topics are relevant to any reader but they are seen through the eyes of a seasoned Southern woman who continues the tradition of good Texas storytellers with a lesbian flair.  The tone is personal – often intimate – and conversational which makes it compelling. Imagine sitting with an old friend in rocking chairs on the front porch of her home on a quiet street in a small town in Texas. You rock and talk about love, faith, grief, comfort, joy, peace and Elvis.Maybe even Garth Brooks.  The more you talk and rock, the more the stresses of your life are lessened just a little bit for a brief moment when you stop by I’ll Call it Like I See It

Redsrantsandraves

www.redsrantsandraves.com  was created exactly three years ago  and I started it to use humor to address a diverse collection of current topics and to use a different voice to write about them.  The Red Man, my rescued Welsh terrier, became that alter ego. The site is a unique blend of copy and photos – sometimes skewed more heavily toward one or the other – depending on the topic.  I change the WordPress themes frequently. The topics are as diverse as Red’s family.  Sports, entertainment, LGBT culture, life in a small Texas town, life in a city in South Carolina, slices of life that speak to the everyday human drama – as seen through the eyes of a very opinionated little guy in a furry suit.  We are not Johnny One Notes on topics in our blog. I get regular comments that Red’s Rants and Raves make readers smile or laugh out loud or even bring an occasional tear when the words lead them there.  I try to challenge his followers to progressive thought and tolerance and sometimes, to just have fun when they stop by.
